8 Self-Care Summer Tips

Self-care and self-love are often seen as a luxury, but in reality, they are a necessity that we should consistently practice in our busy lifestyles. Taking care of oneself is known to reduce stress levels, other health concerns and can truly amplify your quality of life. By indulging in feel-good activities, you can feel more energetic as opposed to fatigue and experience less mental drainage.

By prioritizing self-care, you are inherently taking control of your own life and filling it with the positivity that you deserve.

So while summer is here, let us get into some self-care tips for this season:

  1. Keep yourself hydrated
Water is one of the most essential parts of our body and so keeping yourself hydrated is extremely important. Drinking at least 6-8 glasses of water a day is a must to keep your skin glowing and also for those who are or looking to lose weight, water can boost your metabolism. A lot of common skin problems are also caused due to dehydration. So make sure that this summer you stay super hydrated in the heat to keep yourself glowing and healthy.
  2. Social Media Detox
It may sound impossible but try to log off your social media accounts for an extended period of time. It could be for a week, 10 days or a month but it will surely bring a lot of change within you. You will notice how much social media consumed you mentally, and by taking a break from it your thought process will change a bit. You will be more proactive and less prone to the ‘zoning out’ that scrolling through a feed can induce. Technology has made humans its slave, so now take control of your life and be your own boss (plus, by avoiding our habits of creeping others, we will feed our mind with fewer images/ideas to compare ourselves to – great for our mental health!).
  3. Indulge in some activity
Is there something that you’ve always wanted to do but have always been pushing it off later? It could be anything that makes you happy, something new and interesting you’ve always wanted to learn like playing guitar, or pottery or you wish to go back to the old hobby that you used to love as a kid. Sometimes it’s as simple as reading books, painting, or joining a yoga or dance class you’ve always wanted to. Now is the time to just do it and experience something new.
  4. Plan a vacation
If you are someone who needs a break from the hectic routine you call ‘life’ or someone who spends most of their time doing the regular 9 to 5, then you surely need a vacation. Book tickets to your favourite destination, or get in your car to drive somewhere relatively close by. New environments and experience help us grow, teach us a lot about ourselves, and give us a break from the same thoughts that usually linger in our brain.
  5. Get to know yourself
We always feel that we know ourselves best, but do we really? Throughout life, we learn so many new things and our perspectives and personalities change over time. By spending more time indulging in yourself, you will learn about your opinions, thoughts, habits, weaknesses and strengths. This can be done by taking out some me-time, by just sipping coffee early in the morning, or by just taking a walk, having a pep talk with yourself and blocking out all the negativity. Next time you have ‘nothing to do’, avoid checking your phone and simply pay attention to the voices in your head that make you…you!
  6. Eating healthy
It is overheard, but for many reasons: You are what you eat. You should always take care of your health because if you stay healthy and fit, you can also take care of your loved ones around you and enjoy every moment. Eating your greens and fruits, indulging in healthy smoothies or juices and keep a strong balance. Summer can be all about patios, drinks and ice cream but make sure you squeeze in the nutritious stuff too!
  7. Sunscreen
Nothing beats fun in the sun, but make sure you protect your skin! Carry sunscreen with you wherever you go and get a sunscreen that suits your skin type. Sun damage will make your skin age faster, will keep you at risk of developing skin cancer, and will also cause discolouration. Keep yourself in check of this habit!
  8. Book a Spa appointment
Girl, sometimes the best way to feel good is to keep yourself looking good (but no one should decide what looks good other than yourself). Get your hair tamed, your nails cleaned, your muscles relaxed – whatever will make you feel confident, at ease and happy with yourself.

Above all, remember to take advantage of every moment. Don’t take your time for granted, and don’t feel guilty about spending as much time as you need to keep yourself feeling energized and happy.
